Serre Chevalier Ski Holidays

Serre Chevalier is located in the Southern Alps of France. It is split into three main villages and the historic town of Briancon. They are all linked up by ski runs, an efficient lift system and regular bus service. The heart of the resort is Villeneuve which has a quiet main street lined by cosy bars, hotels and restaurants. Chantemerle has a lovely church and good nightlife with the old sector just a couple of minutes walk from the lifts. Le Monetier is at the top of the valley and has one main access lift reached by bus or a 10 min walk. This is the smallest, quietest and most unspoilt of the main villages with a Provencal feel to its streets. Briancon has a gondola from the town to mid mountain. The area round the lift station has a large selection of modern shops, bars, restaurants, hotels and a casino. The upper quarter is more traditional with narrow cobbled streets, traditional restaurants and patisseries. Serre Chevalier Skiing and Boarding

Serre Chevalier is fantastic for extensive high altitude skiing, plenty of sunshine, spectacular tree lined mountain scenery and value for money. The 250Km of pistes are spread across the four main villages. Villeneuve has the most extensive skiing reaching way back into the mountains and spreading over five bowls. All four sectors have nursery areas and there are some easy high runs to progress to in Chantemerle. Serre Chevalier’s slopes are ideal for intermediates though as there are a huge amount of options to choose from across the entire area. More advanced skiers will find moguls on the higher slopes above Le Monetier and the runs beside these lifts form a great playground in good snow. There is a huge amount of off piste terrain throughout the area both high up and in the trees. Definitely hire a guide for any off piste expeditions you are planning and they will take you to the best challenging spots. Snowboarders will just love the natural playground that is the area of Serre Chevalier as there are plenty of natural obstacles to take on. The cross country opportunites are excellent with 35Km of tracks along the valley floor.

Serre Chevalier Apres Ski

Nightlife revolves around the local bars with each resort having a variety on offer. Off the slopes there is a leisure complex in Briancon and you can take in an ice hockey game which is fun. In Le Monetier there are thermal baths, indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam rooms. Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Briancon have ice rinks and there are also good walking trails throughout. For something different you can also learn to drive a piste grooming machine.
