Davos, Switzerland
Davos Ski and Snowboard Holidays
Davos is a world famous resort set high in the Swiss Alps. Famous for the World Economic Forum where world leaders meet each year to try and make the world a better place it is also a pretty good ski area. There are two main centres, Dorf and Platz that are about a mile apart. The transport throughout is good as there are buses as well as the railway that links Dorf and Platz to Klosters and other villages. The easiest access to the slopes is from Dorf to the main Parsenn area. Platz is better served to access the Jakobshorn area. Short breaks are also available to Davos for a minimum of 3 nights.
Davos Skiing and Boarding
Davos shares its slopes with the famously royal resort of Klosters and has something to suit all standards of skier and boarder. The Swiss Snowsport School has its own nursery slopes at Bolgen and Bunda. From here beginners can begin to progress to the wide runs on Pischa and Madrisa or try the long blues on the Parsenn. Intermediates will find a fantastic variety of runs at their feet as there are great cruising runs on all the mountains. The variety of wonderful long runs into the Klosters valley create a compelling area with loads of unique character. There are 110Kms of advanced runs of which 65Kms are marked off piste runs. Davos is perfect for skiers and boarders looking for some powder snow and off piste adventure. The Brambabuel is the main mogul run and the long descents to Wolfgang offer peace and tranquillity with a welcome lunch stop at the Kulm restaurant. Brush up your skills with some lessons from the Extreme ski school. Cross country skiers will find 75Kms of trails running along the valley. There is also a cross country ski centre and special ski school on the outskirts of the town.
Davos Apres Ski
Davos offers plenty of après ski in the form of bars, discos and nightclubs. There is also a large casino in the Hotel Europe. The rustic Chami bar is lively and popular with locals. Snowboarders tend to be attracted to Bolgenschanze and BolgenPlaza. Off the slopes there is plenty for non skiers or boarders. There is a good variety of shops and the transport along the valley is good. Europe’s biggest natural ice rink can be found in Davos. Spectator events include speed skating as well as ice hockey. There are also lots of walks on the slopes as well as surrounding the lake and along the valleys. There is also a toboggan run. If you are not skiing and looking for some culture you can also take in a local museum or gallery. Day trips to St Moritz and Chur can also be arranged in resort.
